When did WWI begin and when did it end?
- Began on July 18th, 1914
- Ended November 11th, 1918 (Armistice Treaty)
Who was the Prime Minister of Canada during WWI?
- Robert Borden was the prime minister of Canada
What was the Conscription Crisis?
- After battle of sommes Canada needed soldiers and had to rely on its last effort conscription
- The problem half the country wanted conscription and half of them did not. Borden didn’t want to lose the election so he introduced to acts:
- War- Times Elections Act- Gave women related to soldiers/nurses right to note and took away votes from enemy aliens ( Germans)
- Military Voters Act- gave soldiers right to vote in any riding and their riding could be added to any riding to help Borden’s votes. Took the right to vote from conscientious objectors
- Borden creates the Military Service Act- States conscription would come into effect after next federal election.
What were the terms of the Treaty of Versailles?
Major Terms are:
- War Guilt Cause: Germany must take full responsibility for causing WWI
- Reparations: Germany had to pay for all war damages and loses totalling 30 billion
- Military Restrictions: Germany was not allowed to have an army more than 100 000 men, no air force or submarines/navy
- Territory Restrictions: the map of Europe was redrawn and Germany lost all territories gained and overseas colonies; Germany split into two by the polish corridor
